Ypres
The Battle of Ypres actually includes three battles. They were fought in Ypres, Belgium. The town of Ypres was always under attack from the Germans because it was a key point in keeping them from the English Channel.

The third major war of Ypres is also known as The Battle of Passchendaele or the ‘Battle of Mud’. It was also the battle held after The Vimy Ridge battle.
During the war, rain poured down from the sky very heavily that turned the lowlands into muddy swamps. It was almost impossible to march. The situation got worse because of British army’s heavy bombardments in results of damages of the drainage in that area.
The Germans remained in the concrete bunkers while they killed a large number of Allied troops with weapons like the chlorine or mustard gas and machine guns.
The Canadians eventually took over the village of Passchendaele after a few months of war. That was when Allied stopped the offensive.
